2.1Bhayaṁ dukkhañca rogo ca,Danger, suffering, and disease,2.2gaṇḍo sallañca saṅgo ca;boil, dart, and chain,2.3Paṅko gabbho ca ubhayaṁ,and bogs and wombs both.2.4ete kāmā pavuccanti;These describe the sensual pleasures2.5Yattha satto puthujjano.to which ordinary people are attached.

3.1Otiṇṇo sātarūpena,Swamped by things that seem pleasant,3.2puna gabbhāya gacchati;you go to another womb.3.3Yato ca bhikkhu ātāpī,But when a mendicant is keen,3.4sampajaññaṁ na riccati.and doesn’t forget awareness,

4.1So imaṁ palipathaṁ duggaṁ,in this way that sort transcend4.2atikkamma tathāvidho;this grueling swamp.4.3Pajaṁ jātijarūpetaṁ,They watch this population flounder,4.4phandamānaṁ avekkhatī”ti.fallen into rebirth and old age.”

4.5Chaṭṭhaṁ.
