3.1Yācanti maṁ pañjalikā,With cupped palms,3.2sanegamā saraṭṭhakā;along with the citizens of town and country, they asked,3.3‘Ajjeva putta paṭipajja,‘This very day, rule this great land,3.4iddhaṁ phītaṁ mahāmahiṁ’.so successful and prosperous.’
4.1Sarājake sahorodhe,The King and the Queens,4.2sanegame saraṭṭhake;with the citizens of town and country,4.3Karuṇaṁ paridevante,cried pitifully,4.4anapekkhova pariccajiṁ.as I forsook unconcerned.
5.1Kevalaṁ pathaviṁ rajjaṁ,Kingship over the entire earth,5.2ñātiparijanaṁ yasaṁ;family, retinue, and fame—5.3Cajamāno na cintesiṁ,I gave them up without a second thought,5.4bodhiyāyeva kāraṇā.because it was solely for awakening.
6.1Mātāpitā na me dessā,I had no dislike of my parents,6.2napi me dessaṁ mahāyasaṁ;nor did I dislike the great fame.6.3Sabbaññutaṁ piyaṁ mayhaṁ,But because omniscience is precious to me,6.4tasmā rajjaṁ pariccajin”ti.that is why I forsook kingship.”
