1.1“Sare hatthehi bhañjitvā,I broke the reeds off with my hands,1.2katvāna kuṭimacchisaṁ;made a hut, and stayed there.1.3Tena me sarabhaṅgoti,That’s how I became known1.4nāmaṁ sammutiyā ahu.as “Reed-breaker”.

2.1Na mayhaṁ kappate ajja,But now it’s not appropriate2.2sare hatthehi bhañjituṁ;for me to break reeds with my hands.2.3Sikkhāpadā no paññattā,The training rules have been laid down for us2.4gotamena yasassinā.by Gotama the renowned.

3.1Sakalaṁ samattaṁ rogaṁ,Previously, I, Sarabhaṅga,3.2Sarabhaṅgo nāddasaṁ pubbe;didn’t see the disease in its entirety.3.3Soyaṁ rogo diṭṭho,But now I have seen the disease,3.4Vacanakarenātidevassa.as I’ve practiced what was taught <j>by he who is beyond the gods.

4.1Yeneva maggena gato vipassī,Gotama traveled by that direct route;4.2Yeneva maggena sikhī ca vessabhū;the same path traveled by Vipassī,4.3Kakusandhakoṇāgamano ca kassapo,by Sikhī, Vessabhū,4.4Tenañjasena agamāsi gotamo.Kakusandha, Koṇāgamana, and Kassapa.

5.1Vītataṇhā anādānā,These seven Buddhas have plunged into the ending,5.2satta buddhā khayogadhā;free of craving, without grasping,5.3Yehāyaṁ desito dhammo,having become Dhamma, unaffected.5.4dhammabhūtehi tādibhi.They have taught this Dhamma

6.1Cattāri ariyasaccāni,out of compassion for living creatures—6.2anukampāya pāṇinaṁ;suffering, origin, path,6.3Dukkhaṁ samudayo maggo,and cessation, the ending of suffering.6.4nirodho dukkhasaṅkhayo.In these four noble truths,

7.1Yasmiṁ nivattate dukkhaṁ,the endless suffering of transmigration7.2saṁsārasmiṁ anantakaṁ;finally comes to an end.7.3Bhedā imassa kāyassa,When the body breaks up,7.4jīvitassa ca saṅkhayā;and life comes to an end,7.5Añño punabbhavo natthi,there are no future lives;7.6suvimuttomhi sabbadhī”ti.I’m everywhere well freed.
