1.1“Paṇṇavīsativassāni,In the twenty-five years1.2yato pabbajitāya me;since I went forth,1.3Nābhijānāmi cittassa,I don’t know that I had ever found1.4samaṁ laddhaṁ kudācanaṁ.serenity in my mind.

2.1Aladdhā cetaso santiṁ,I had failed to find peace of heart,2.2citte avasavattinī;or any control over my mind.2.3Tato saṁvegamāpādiṁ,When I remembered the victor’s instructions,2.4saritvā jinasāsanaṁ.I was struck with a sense of urgency.

3.1Bahūhi dukkhadhammehi,Though subject to so many painful things,3.2appamādaratāya me;I have, through my love of diligence,3.3Taṇhakkhayo anuppatto,reached the ending of craving,3.4kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ;and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.3.5Ajja me sattamī ratti,This is the seventh day3.6yato taṇhā visositā”ti.since my craving dried up.
