1.1“Adhammo ca, bhikkhave, veditabbo dhammo ca;“Mendicants, you should know bad principles and good principles.1.2anattho ca veditabbo attho ca.And you should know bad results and good results.1.3Adhammañca viditvā dhammañca, anatthañca viditvā atthañca yathā dhammo yathā attho tathā paṭipajjitabbaṁ.Knowing these things, your practice should follow the good principles with good results.

2.1Katamo ca, bhikkhave, adhammo, katamo ca dhammo, katamo ca anattho, katamo ca attho?So what are bad principles? What are good principles? What are bad results? And what are good results?

3.1Micchādiṭṭhi, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong view is a bad principle.3.2sammādiṭṭhi dhammo;Right view is a good principle.3.3ye ca micchādiṭṭhipaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong view are bad results.3.4sammādiṭṭhipaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right view are good results.

4.1Micchāsaṅkappo, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong purpose is a bad principle.4.2sammāsaṅkappo dhammo;Right purpose is a good principle.4.3ye ca micchāsaṅkappapaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong purpose are bad results.4.4sammāsaṅkappapaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right purpose are good results.

5.1Micchāvācā, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong speech is a bad principle.5.2sammāvācā dhammo;Right speech is a good principle.5.3ye ca micchāvācāpaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong speech are bad results.5.4sammāvācāpaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right speech are good results.

6.1PTS 5.224Micchākammanto, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong action is a bad principle.6.2sammākammanto dhammo;Right action is a good principle.6.3ye ca micchākammantapaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong action are bad results.6.4sammākammantapaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right action are good results.

7.1Micchāājīvo, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong livelihood is a bad principle.7.2sammāājīvo dhammo;Right livelihood is a good principle.7.3ye ca micchāājīvapaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong livelihood are bad results.7.4sammāājīvapaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right livelihood are good results.

8.1Micchāvāyāmo, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong effort is a bad principle.8.2sammāvāyāmo dhammo;Right effort is a good principle.8.3ye ca micchāvāyāmapaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong effort are bad results.8.4sammāvāyāmapaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right effort are good results.

9.1Micchāsati, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong mindfulness is a bad principle.9.2sammāsati dhammo;Right mindfulness is a good principle.9.3ye ca micchāsatipaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong mindfulness are bad results.9.4sammāsatipaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right mindfulness are good results.

10.1Micchāsamādhi, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong immersion is a bad principle.10.2sammāsamādhi dhammo;Right immersion is a good principle.10.3ye ca micchāsamādhipaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong immersion are bad results.10.4sammāsamādhipaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right immersion are good results.

11.1Micchāñāṇaṁ, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong knowledge is a bad principle.11.2sammāñāṇaṁ dhammo;Right knowledge is a good principle.11.3ye ca micchāñāṇapaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong knowledge are bad results.11.4sammāñāṇapaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right knowledge are good results.

12.1Micchāvimutti, bhikkhave, adhammo;Wrong freedom is a bad principle.12.2sammāvimutti dhammo;Right freedom is a good principle.12.3ye ca micchāvimuttipaccayā aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti, ayaṁ anattho;And the many bad, unskillful qualities produced by wrong freedom are bad results.12.4sammāvimuttipaccayā ca aneke kusalā dhammā bhāvanāpāripūriṁ gacchanti, ayaṁ attho.And the many skillful qualities fully developed because of right freedom are good results.

13.1‘Adhammo ca, bhikkhave, veditabbo dhammo ca;‘You should know bad principles and good principles.13.2anattho ca veditabbo attho ca.And you should know bad results and good results.13.3Adhammañca viditvā dhammañca, anatthañca viditvā atthañca yathā dhammo yathā attho tathā paṭipajjitabban’ti,Knowing these things, your practice should follow the good principles with good results.’13.4iti yaṁ taṁ vuttaṁ, idametaṁ paṭicca vuttan”ti.That’s what I said, and this is why I said it.”
