1.1Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

2.1“Dvīhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato puggalo yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.“Mendicants, an individual with two qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there.2.2Katamehi dvīhi?What two?2.3Pāpakena ca sīlena, pāpikāya ca diṭṭhiyā.Bad conduct and bad view.2.4Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dvīhi dhammehi samannāgato puggalo yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye”ti.An individual with these two qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there.”

2.5Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.The Buddha spoke this matter.2.6Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:On this it is said:

3.1“Pāpakena ca sīlena,“If a person possesses3.2pāpikāya ca diṭṭhiyā;these two qualities—3.3Etehi dvīhi dhammehi,bad conduct3.4yo samannāgato naro;and bad views—3.5Kāyassa bhedā duppañño,when their body breaks up, that witless person3.6nirayaṁ sopapajjatī”ti.is reborn in hell.”

4.1Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
