1.1Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

2.1“Tīṇimāni, bhikkhave, sucaritāni.“Mendicants, there are these kinds of good conduct.2.2Katamāni tīṇi?What three?2.3Kāyasucaritaṁ, vacīsucaritaṁ, manosucaritaṁ—Good conduct by way of body, speech, and mind.2.4imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi sucaritānī”ti.These are the three kinds of good conduct.”

2.5Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca.The Buddha spoke this matter.2.6Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:On this it is said:

3.1“Kāyaduccaritaṁ hitvā,“Having given up bad conduct3.2vacīduccaritāni ca;by way of body,3.3Manoduccaritaṁ hitvā,speech, and mind,3.4yañcaññaṁ dosasaṁhitaṁ.and whatever else is corrupt;

4.1Akatvākusalaṁ kammaṁ,not having done bad deeds,4.2katvāna kusalaṁ bahuṁ;and having done many good,4.3Kāyassa bhedā sappañño,when their body breaks up, that wise person4.4saggaṁ so upapajjatī”ti.is reborn in heaven.”

5.1Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
