1.2“Cattārome, bhikkhave, oghā.“Mendicants, there are these four floods.1.3Katame cattāro?What four?1.4Kāmogho, bhavogho, diṭṭhogho, avijjogho—The floods of sensuality, desire to be reborn, views, and ignorance.1.5ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro oghā.These are the four floods.

1.6Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, catunnaṁ oghānaṁ abhiññāya pariññāya parikkhayāya pahānāya …pe… ayaṁ ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo bhāvetabbo”ti.The noble eightfold path should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these four floods.”
