2.1Yaṁ āpadā uppatitā uḷārā,When extreme stresses arise,2.2Nakkhambhayante paṭisaṅkhayantaṁ;one who does not tremble, but reflects instead,2.3So thāmavā nāma ca hoti paṇḍito,that astute person is indeed strong—2.4Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assa.knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished.

3.1Yo ve samuddova ṭhito anejo,Steady as the ocean, imperturbable,3.2Gambhīrapañño nipuṇatthadassī;their wisdom is deep, they see the subtle meaning;3.3Asaṁhāriyo nāma ca hoti paṇḍito,that astute person is indeed unfaltering—3.4Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assa.knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished.

4.1Bahussuto dhammadharo ca hoti,They’re very learned, <j>and have memorized the teaching,4.2Dhammassa hoti anudhammacārī;living in line with the teaching—4.3So tādiso nāma ca hoti paṇḍito,that astute person is indeed such—4.4Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assa.knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished.

5.1Atthañca yo jānāti bhāsitassa,They know the meaning of what is said,5.2Atthañca ñatvāna tathā karoti;and act accordingly;5.3Atthantaro nāma sa hoti paṇḍito,that astute person is indeed a master of meaning—5.4Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assā”ti.knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished.
