1.1“Yaṁ patthayāno dhammesu,My mentor helped me to learn,1.2upajjhāyo anuggahi;hoping I would practice those teachings.1.3Amataṁ abhikaṅkhantaṁ,Aspiring to freedom from death,1.4kataṁ kattabbakaṁ mayā.I’ve done what had to be done.

2.1Anuppatto sacchikato,I’ve realized the Dhamma,2.2sayaṁ dhammo anītiho;witnessing it for myself, not based on legends.2.3Visuddhañāṇo nikkaṅkho,With purified knowledge, free of doubt,2.4byākaromi tavantike.I declare it in your presence.

3.1Pubbenivāsaṁ jānāmi,I know my past lives,3.2dibbacakkhu visodhitaṁ;my clairvoyance is purified,3.3Sadattho me anuppatto,I’ve realized my heart’s goal,3.4kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ.and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.

4.1Appamattassa me sikkhā,Being diligent in the training,4.2sussutā tava sāsane;I learned your teachings well.4.3Sabbe me āsavā khīṇā,All my defilements are ended;4.4natthi dāni punabbhavo.now there’ll be no more future lives.

5.1Anusāsi maṁ ariyavatā,You advised me in noble observances;5.2Anukampi anuggahi;sympathetic, you helped teach me.5.3Amogho tuyhamovādo,Your instruction was not in vain—5.4Antevāsimhi sikkhito”ti.I, your pupil, am fully trained.
